Atul Malhotra, MD | Atul Malhotra, MD, of the Divisions of Pulmonary and Critical Care and Sleep Medicine, was elected secretary treasurer of the American Thoracic Society this month. In 2015, Dr. Malhotra will become president of the international society, which boasts more than 15,000 members. It is the world’s leading medical association dedicated to advancing the clinical and scientific understanding of pulmonary diseases, critical illnesses and sleep-related breathing disorders.
Dr. Malhotra is the medical director of the BWH Sleep Disorders Research Program, clinical chief of the Brigham Sleep Medicine Division and an associate professor at Harvard Medical School. HE is a principal investigator on six National Institutes of Health grants, running a large laboratory focused on the pathogenesis of sleep apnea and the metabolic/cardiovascular complications of sleep disorders. He is also active in critical care research, particularly focused on physiological issues of mechanical ventilation in acute respiratory distress syndrome.
